Men's Soccer: Broad Run Grad Shane Johnson Makes All-Atlantic Soccer Conference Team as Well as All-Academic Team

Garden City, N.Y. (Nov. 18, 2010) - Three members of the Longwood University men’s soccer team earned Atlantic Soccer Conference (ASC) All-Conference honors, including Broad Run High School grad, junior Shane Johnson on the second team. Also earning all-conference honors were senior Harvey Headley (Coventry, England (Stoke Park) on the first team and sophomore Patrick McDaniel (Midlothian (Cosby) second team.

Four Longwood student-athletes earned ASC All-Academic Team honors as well.

Headley started all 18 matches for the Lancers in the regular season and scored a team-high seven goals with one assist. His seven goals also tied for the conference lead and 15 points was second-best in the ASC. He earned ASC Player of the Week honors on October 25 and was a First-Team All-ASC selection in 2009.

Johnson also started all 18 matches for Longwood as a defender during the regular season while McDaniel started 16 matches as a defender. McDaniel was a Second-Team All-ASC selection in 2009.

Johnson also earned a spot on the ASC All-Academic team. He was joined by junior Zack Mahon (San Antonio, Texas (William Howard Taft), junior Cody Merkes (Chesapeake (Hickory) and sophomore Devin Pierce (Virginia Beach (Ocean Lakes). Johnson and Mahon also earned the honor last season. Johnson is majoring in business administration while Mahon is majoring in economics. Merkes is studying physics and pre-engineering while Pierce is a mathematics major.

Other area players on the Longwood men's soccer roster include freshman midfielder Ian Sessoms (South Riding/Freedom) and junior midfielder Phil Chaves (Leesburg/Radford transfer/Loudoun Couhty)
